Your PC must meet the minimum systems requirements for the software to work. You will also need to have valid MIT certificates installed on your PC before installing SDC Platinum software on your computer.

VISTA USERS: Please see the notes at the bottom of this page before proceeding with your installation.

MAC USERS: Unfortunately, there is no SDC Platinum software available for the Mac OS.

NOTE: The ThomsonReuters website does not work well with browsers other than Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Downloading SDC Platinum

• Go to http://download.thomsonone.com
• Click Not Registered Yet? Create your login now!
• Use these temporary passwords to create your account…
  Login Account Name: summer
  Access Password: summer
  …then click the Next button
• Fill in the account information and create a permanent password for yourself. Click the Process User Information button at the bottom.
• You will receive an e-mail shortly from Thomson with a link to activate your account. Click on that link and follow any subsequent verification instructions. (If you do not receive an e-mail, assume that your account has been activated and proceed to http://download.thomsonone.com and log in with your e-mail and the permanent password you created.)
• You are taken to your account page. There is a link to the SDC Platinum 4.0 software on that page. Download it to your hard drive (the filename is "setup_SDC4.exe").

Installing SDC Platinum

• Print out or note the Login ID, Password, and Host information (MIT certificates required).
• Open the file "setup_SDC4.exe" on your hard drive to run the set up program. Accept the default destination file. The software will now install.
• Once installed, open SDC Tools (C:\Program Files\SDC\4.0\Platinum\Bin\SDCTOOLS). In the SDC Tools window, click on the "Account" icon. An account setup pop-up window appears with two tabs named Account Details and Administrator Info.
  • Under Account Details, Enter the Login ID, Password, and Host information.
  • Under Administrator Info, enter your name and phone number.
  • Click OK to close the account setup pop-up window and return to the SDC Tools Window.
• Click on the Options icon. If necessary, change the Network Type to “Internet” and the IP Address to: platinum.thomsonib.com . The Communications settings should now look like this:
  
  
• Return to the SDC Tools window. Click on the "Users" icon and Add a user. You need to enter your initials, first and last names and your email address here. TAKE NOTE OF HOW YOU ENTER YOUR INITIALS. Your initials will be used later to log in to the database. Return again to the SDC Tools Window.
• Update the SDC software and data by clicking on the “Update” icon in the toolbar of the SDC Tools window. ***NOTE: This step may take up to 30 minutes or more to complete.***
• Once the update is complete, close SDC Tools.

You are now ready to use SDC Platinum 4.0.  Launch SDC Platinum 4.0 (C:\Program Files\SDC\4.0\Platinum\Bin\Platinum). Choose "Login" and enter your user initials. Once connected you will need to enter a Project Description Name in the "Billing Information" box. You will not be billed for your session.

SDC recommends executing online updates of the software once per month. The software can be updated within SDC Tools by clicking on Update in the toolbar.

Before installing SDC Platinum on a Vista machine, please see the SDC v4.0 release notes (http://www.thomsonreuters.com/content/PDF/financial/SDC_40_Release_Notes.pdf).  Pages 7-8 refer to additional installation steps for Vista users which may or may not apply to your particular machine.

Also, there is apparently another problem with installing and running SDC Platinum on Vista which affects all Vista users.  Although you can download SDC as an admin on your PC, you cannot use SDC on Vista OS as the administrator. You will be able to enter your initials and it will log on, but you will receive an error that states “Class not registered, cannot register user”.  SDC's Help Desk has told Dewey Library that they are aware of the problem and do not know when this problem will be corrected. In the meantime, you can try this workaround.  Please let us know if you are still unable to install and run SDC Platinum on your computer:

• In Vista, download and install SDC as a user with Administrator access.
  
• Then go to Start > My Computer > C drive > Program Files > SDC
• Right-click the SDC folder, select Properties, then select the Securities Tab
• Then in the list for the user on the machine, look for the Standard user account. Then click the edit button. Give the user full control (modify, read, write, delete and execute), then click apply, then OK.
• After that, work with SDC Platinum 4.0 from teh Standard user login.  You should be able to work normally.
