Life Cycle Management at MIT Libraries

Life cycle management of digital content is a collective responsibility that by definition spans the departments of MIT Libraries and the theme of roles and responsibilities will be a thread through the discussions. This section will provide resources related to life cycle management. The brief presentation reviewed core components of community standards and practice for life cycle management. The Digital Content Management (DCM) will apply life cycle management concepts to MIT Libraries.

Digital Content Management (DCM)

MIT Libraries has been managing digital content for more than a decade. The extent and variety of digital content to be managed is growing rapidly.  To address the growth of digital content and the increasing interest by users in access to digital content, MIT Libraries defined a strategic objective to improve infrastructure for digital content management and delivery. As a result, the Digital Content Management (DCM) Initiative has identified a set of activities for FY 13 (July 2012-June 2013) that will raise awareness, coordinate life cycle management for digital content, document the current status of digital content, complete two projects to improve the status of two digital content types, and establish priorities for ongoing digital content management efforts.

The Life Cycle Group that is coordinating the DCM initiative presented an overview of and update about the initiative in October 2012 and will provide periodic updates.
