What to look for
Make sure you search Barton and Vera for the title of the journal/conference proceeding/source and NOT the article title.
- Vera Search for the e-journal or e-book you need to check for online full text availability.
- Barton, the MIT Libraries catalog Double check the book or journal title you need to see if it's in one of the MIT Libraries.
Find the materials you need
While the MIT Libraries hold over a million volumes of printed material, we do not own everything published. You may be able to get what you need by utilizing one of these options:
- InterLibrary Borrowing (ILB) ILB obtains materials not owned by MIT to support MIT-related research. There is no cost for using this service, but use is restricted to MIT only. Plan ahead - ILB takes as little as 3 days or as long as 3 weeks, depending on what you request.
- Boston Library Consortium (BLC) Go to one of these libraries yourself to borrow/photocopy materials. First check the local online catalog to make sure the item you need is available. Get a Consortium Library Card at the Barker, Dewey, Humanities, Rotch or Science libraries.
- HOLLIS Search the library catalog for Harvard University. You may be able to borrow or visit for photocopying purposes with an HCL Special Borrower Card.
- Access to Harvard Libraries Learn about participating Harvard libraies and obtaining an HCL Special Borrower Card.
- WorldCat Search this world-wide database of books to see if a library near you owns the book you need. [MIT only]
