Can I work at the MIT Libraries?

I’m an MIT undergraduate student

Yes, as long as you're registered or will be eligible to register as an MIT student, you can work on campus. Check the Student Financial Services (SFS) website for more details.

I’m an MIT graduate student

Yes, as long as you're registered or be eligible to register as an MIT student, you can work on campus. Check the Student Financial Services (SFS) website for more details.

If you have a teaching or research assistantship or a fellowship, that may limit how many hours you can work.

I’m an international student

Yes, you can still apply for a job. If you don't have a Social Security Number (SSN), you'll need to apply for one after you've been hired. Check the International Student Office (ISO) website for instructions on applying for an SSN.

I’m not an MIT student

We can't hire you as a student worker, but you may be eligible for other job opportunities in the Libraries. For more information, check the Libraries' Job page.

Can I apply?

I haven’t filed my I-9 yet. Can I still apply?

Yes, you can apply for a job, but we can't hire you until your I-9 form is on file. If you have any questions about the I-9, please contact the Atlas Service Center.

My schedules’ not set yet. Can I still apply?

Yes, definitely apply for jobs now. On the application form, enter the hours you think you'll be able to work, and add a note that your schedule's still being finalized.

I've already applied for a job

When will I hear back?

We'll usually respond to an application within a week. If you applied over a week ago and haven't heard back, contact us at student-jobs-lib@mit.edu.

My availability has changed. What do I do?

  • If the unit you applied to is still accepting applications, just apply again with your updated availability.
  • If applications are closed and the hiring manager hasn’t contacted you, email us at student-jobs-lib@mit.edu with your updated availability and we can get in touch with the hiring manager.
  • If the hiring manager has already contacted you about an interview or job offer, you can reach out directly to them with your updated availability

Can I apply to more than one unit in the Libraries?

Yes, definitely apply for all jobs you're interested in. Be sure to note in your application that you've already applied or are planning to apply to other units.
