A survey of the music of North and South America from the Renaissance to the present, with emphasis on the cross-fertilizations of indigenous and European traditions. Listening assignments will focus on composers as varied as Copland and Still, Revueltas and Chihara. / C. Shadle

What is Native science? This course traces the history of global Indigenous knowledges and engagements with colonial and settler science, technology, and medicine.

In November 2020 Indigenous media scholars, artists came together with MIT scientists, students, staff. The theme of the gathering was Indigenous Knowledge, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Worlds. Two years later in 2022 "Collective Wisdom. Co-Creating Media for Equity and Justice" was published by the MIT Press.

This course examines diverse Indigenous films and television shows from TurtleIsland (Canada & the United States) to Aotearoa (New Zealand). Films/television shows will include: Reservation Dogs, by Sterlin Harjo (Seminole/Muscogee Creek),
The Mountain of SGaana, byChristopher Auchter (Haida), Hunt for the Wilderpeople, by Taika Waititi (Māori), Rhymes for YoungGhouls, by Jeff Barnaby (Mi’kmaq), Smoke Signals, by Chris Eyre Cheyenne and Arapaho) and Maliglutit, by Zacharias Kunuk (Inuk).

The courses listed under HUNAP are organized into three categories. 1) HUNAP Faculty - Courses are taught by members of HUNAP’s faculty board and cover Native & Indigenous topics in a direct fashion, or through units/readings.2) Indigenous Focused - Courses taught by members of the general faculty at Harvard and cover Indigenous topics as their primary focus. 3) Indigenous Units/Readings Featured - Courses taught by the general faculty and may have components of their course related to Indigenous topics.
