Music quick guide: Electronic music: Finding Audio Recordings & Streaming Music

Online and print resources

Introduction

The Lewis Music Library has a sizable collection of playable media in the forms of CDs, DVDs, and LPs! In addition, the library grants user access to millions of audio tracks, findable either in the library catalog or directly in the resources provided below.

To refine your library catalog search to only display audio recordings, begin with a keyword search, then open the advanced search tab. Under Material Type, select Sound Recordings.

For further specificity, you may navigate to the dropdown filter, Limit To, and filter by format. The Online box will result in streaming audio, and the Print/Physical Item box will yield physical audio recordings.

To search for LPs only, begin with a keyword search, then in the advanced search tab, add "record" to the second keyword field, and make sure the material type is set to Sound Recordings.

Tips for Finding Audio Resources

A helpful tool for finding audio resources in the catalog is searching by subject headings, such as:

  • Electronic Music
  • Piano and Electronic Music
  • Electronic Dance Music
  • Film Music
  • Motion Picture Music
  • Computer Music
  • Video Game Music

All media (CDs & LPs) owned by the Lewis Music Library is held either behind the circulation desk or offsite. LPs must be requested from our offsite collection through the library catalog, while CDs may either be requested through the library catalog, or retrieved in person by library staff with the accompanying call number.
