Self-assessment tools

MyPlan has several assessment tools available including a personality test, career interest inventory, career skills profiler, and a career values assessment. There is also a 'majors' tab that includes a resource callsed "What can I do with a major in....?" that can help match career assessments to a potential major or vice versa. 

To access MyPlan:

  1. Log In to your CareerBridge account.
  2. On the orange bar across the top of the page, mouse over the ‘additional resources’ tab, then click ‘MyPlan.’
  3. Register for a MyPlan account following the directions on the screen.

Internet resources for researching occupations

Researching your potential department

Check the departmental webpages. Almost all of these pages will highlight the research activities of the department, profile the faculty etc..  This can be a great way to learn more about your potential major. Look for the links to Research and Faculty.  For example:

Find departmental web pages.

Use our Research Guides to see what faculty in your potential department are writing about.  We have guides for just about every subject taught at MIT.  Use these guides to find:

  • Databases of journal articles for that subject.
  • Background materials such as manuals and encyclopedias.
  • Contact information for the subject librarian  for that department.
