Monograph Acquisitions: Ordering books from the MIT Coop

Ordering books from the MIT Coop

(Last Revised 1/26/11)

1. In general, Collection Librarians or Reserve Staff should not ask the COOP to hold books for the MIT Libraries.

Exception: If you are at the COOP and there are only 1 or 2 copies left and you feel you must have a copy held for us, please mark the order citation that you send to MonoAcq with note:  BEING HELD AT COOP FOR MIT LIBRARIES.

2. If you suspect the COOP may have a copy of a RUSH order you need, please note “TRY COOP.”  Upon receipt, MonoAcq will call the COOP to confirm that the book is in stock and ask them to hold the book for us.

3. MonoAcq will create an order in Aleph and then a staff member who has an MIT Procurement Card will go to the Coop and purchase.  (Due to problematic billing issues in the past, it is necessary for the book(s) to be paid for with an Institute credit card.)

4. MonoAcq will RUSH process the books upon receipt; invoicing will done when the credit charge hits SAP for verification.
