Monograph Acquisitions: New Streamlining Initiatives from Mono Acq Receipts

New Streamlining Initiatives from Mono Acq Receipts

(Effective December 2010)

As a general guideline:

  • We will try to print out arrival slips that have information for Catalogers, Preservation Services, and Access Service Desks only.  We will stop printing arrival slips that have notes for the receipt person in Monograph Acquisitions.
  • Staff should be informed to read the note on any Arrival or Yellow Gift Slip – does it require action by them?  If so, they can recycle the arrival or gift slip after they have taken the necessary action; the slip should stay with the book only if there is information noted that needs to be addressed by  someone else further down the workflow chain.

These items no longer need to come back to 14E, even if accompanied by an Arrival or Yellow Gift Slip:

  • Multi-volume sets (we will stop printing arrival slips for these if vol. number is only information noted)
  • Items for Course Reserve
  • Intentional Duplicates
  • Second copies
  • Additional volumes (ADDL VOL and Call #)
  • Previous edition
  • Specific Call #
  • On Search notes
  • Delete Barcode and/or replacement copies

New workflow for serials received through Monograph Acquisitions:

  • SERCAT items -- SerCat will pass item on to SerAcq, who will do any necessary end processing before sending to Preservation Services. From there, item can go directly to the appropriate library.
  • LOK (Latest only Kept) or LOR (Latest on Reference), DeRef. Previous Edition  - When MonoAcq has an item with this note, they will print 2 copies; one copy will travel with the piece; the other copy will go to the staff person who will actually pull the earlier item from the shelves:

Amy – Hum and Science
Harolyn – Dewey, Barker, and Rotch

For Collections other than STACKS:

  • HUM and SCI Browsery books will be stickered at point of receipt; Catalogers will catalog book and as part of next-day processing, change the Collection from STACK to BRWS and check the Temporary Location box in the Item.  For books with dust jackets, Preservation Services will duplicate the barcode and prepare 2 spine labels, one for the book, one for the dust jacket.
  • Books for the following permanent locations will also be stickered at point of receipt.  If you receive a book stickered for any of the following locations, it can move along to the next processing point and does not need to come back to 14E-210:
    • DETEC
    • GRNVL
    • TRAVL
    • WSTM
    • Barker Browsery
    • REF
