MIT Reads: Clap When You Land: Author Elizabeth Acevedo

Elizabeth Acevedo

The multi-talented Elizabeth Acevedo is an acclaimed poet, author,  and performer. On her website, she states: "I come from storytellers." Born and raised in New York City, she now lives in Washington, DC, with her partner.

 A National Poetry Slam champion, Acevedo has received many accolades, including: the National Book Award for Young People's Literature; the Carnegie Medal; and the Pura Belpré Award for "a work that best affirms the Latinx cultural experience." She is the author of Beastgirl & Other Origin Myths (2016), The Poet X (2018), With the Fire on High (2019), and Clap When You Land (2020). Acevedo's most recent work is forthcoming in May of 2022!
