Curation and Preservation Services: Disaster Team

CPS - Contents

Disaster Response Team

In September 2011 the MIT Libraries implemented a new, cross-departmental model for our disaster response team.  Our goal is to have a trained team in place that can lead a response in our physical spaces should there be unwanted water, pests, or other undesirable conditions that need immediate remediation.

Team members

  • Team coordinator & Response Leader: Ann Marie Willer, Preservation Librarian
  • Response Leader: Jana Dambrogio, Conservator
  • Grace Mlady, Facilities Administrator
  • Nora Murphy, Institute Archives and Special Collections
  • Michelle Baildon, Scholarly Communications & Collections Manangement
  • Felicity Walsh, Information Delivery & Library Access
  • Greg Padilla, Information Delivery & Library Access
  • Jeremiah Graves, Information Delivery & Library Access

Responsibilities of team members

  1. To assist with disaster response and recovery
  2. To lead a small- to medium-scale disaster response (e.g. leak in the stacks) in the absence of both the Preservation Librarian and Conservator
  3. To assume defined leadership roles (as assigned by the Team Coordinator) during a large-scale disaster
  4. To participate in an assessment of the new disaster team format after its first year, and periodically thereafter on a schedule to be determined

Reports

Beginning in FY14, the annual report for the MIT Libraries’ Disaster Response Team is incorporated into the annual report for the Curation & Preservation Services department.  Annual reports for all Libraries’ departments are available online at http://libguides.mit.edu/content.php?pid=213367&sid=1934090.
