Searching for books

The search box above provides a short cut to jump to the MIT Libraries catalog. From the home page (https://libraries.mit.edu/), you would select the second tab to arrive at the same place.

Search box for MIT Libraries. Gray arrow pointing at "Books + Media" tab.

Using subject headings

Subject headings are a great way to find books on a similar topic. They are created by the Library of Congress. In general it's not wise to try and guess what a subject heading might be. Instead, try these techniques:

  • From the record of a book that comes up in your search, click on one of the subject headings to see other titles on the same topic.
  • Try a word that you think might be in the heading, and change the search field to subject.
