BPL's Learning English Resources
Boston Public Library's Literacy Services Department provides resources and programs that are designed to serve the needs of the adult literacy and ESL populations in and around Boston. Regular programs include traditional ESL classes, ESL Conversation Groups, HiSET/GED Preparation Classes, and one-on-one tutoring.
BPL offers English as a second language classes from beginner to advanced.
Small Group Tutoring
The BPL offers small group tutoring, from 2-4 participants with one native English speaker group leader. Tutors focus on strengthening conversational skills as well as reading and writing with a more personal focus. BPL Online Learning Tools
You'll need a BPL card in order to use these free online tools. You can sign up for an eCard. All you need is a Massachusetts address!
Learning Express Library
Practice quizzes and exams from grade school level all the way to college and adult education. Focused toward improving test scores for those seeking jobs that require official testing.
Courses run in six week sessions and are free for library card holders! Gale teaches entirely online with an interactive focus led by an instructor.
Mango languages teaches you how to effectively communicate, going beyond the grammar by teaching using real life situations. English language learners can choose their native language from which they are learning English and complete online tutorials to help improve their skills. Also great to begin learning other languages as well. Mango will ask you to login upon entering the site, signing up and creating a profile are completely free! Just follow the instructions after choosing to create an account.
