Scan & Print: Scanners

Instructions for making and paying for copies in the MIT Libraries

Alternatives on campus

Library locations and study spaces remain closed until further notice. Our printers, copiers, and scanners are unavailable at this time. For other options on campus, see IS&T's MIT printer locations and MIT Copytech services.

Scan with Photocopiers, too!

Self-service copiers in Barker, Dewey, Hayden, and Rotch libraries can scan files to e-mail:

  • Place your item on the glass, press the "Scan/Fax" button, select "Direct Input" and enter your e-mail address on the keypad.
  • Scanning to e-mail from the copiers is free, but there is a limit of 20 pages per transmission.

Have a big scanning project?

If our self service scanners don't meet your needs, or if you have a large scanning project, MIT Libraries Scanning Services offers various fee-based digitization services.

Scanner Locations

No-cost, self-service book scanners are available for all library visitors.  The scanners allow easy copying of most library materials.

Each of these locations, as well as the Lewis Music Library, also have combination photocopier/scanners for use. Capability of these scanners is limited, for instance you cannot preview your scanned image.  They do have a document feeder and use is free.
