Finding Information

Find journal articles
Search a bibliographic database:
- Compendex: general engineering and Inspec: electronics, computing, control, robotics, physics
- Introduction to Compendex and Inspec (video tutorial - 3:48)
- PubMed: medicine and biology
- PubMed Basics (video tutorial - 4:00)
- Web of Science: general science, medicine, some engineering. Good for tracking a citation
- Web of Science (video tutorial - 2:23)
- Tracking a citation using Web Of Science (video tutorial - 4:01)
- Scopus: science, engineering, some medicine, particularly published after 1995. Includes citation features, a competitor to Web of Science.
Find books
Search the MIT Libraries catalog: Barton or search library catalogs world-wide using MIT's WorldCat.
Theses: Use Barton's Thesis Search to find MIT theses.
For theses from other universities, use: Dissertations and Theses (citations of theses back to 1861. Full text of most theses from 1997 - present.)

- Medical Device Register: available in print in the Science Library reference collection
- Medical Materials Database: mechanical, physical and biological response properties of implantable cardiovascular and orthopedic medical devices
- ASM Failure Analysis Center: 1000 case histories along with authoritative handbook information on failure mechanisms and analysis methods
- ASM Materials Information: including the ASM Handbook, Alloy Center, and Failure Analysis Center.
- Books 24x7: Full-text e-books in engineering, including topics like ASHRAE handbooks
