MIT Libraries Beverage Policy - Effective as of August 18, 2021

Following significant analysis the SRLT decided to streamline water service, providing a Quench water dispenser at each location. Also included in this analysis were the coffee services provided in NE36 and planned in Hayden, both of which raised equity issues as they were/would have been regularly available only to certain staff. Therefore, after examining the costs associated with staff time and materials and as well as access and equity across all Libraries staff, we have decided to discontinue Libraries’ support of coffee services.

With the exception of event catering expenses or outreach, no funds of the libraries will be approved for purchase of or reimbursement to individual units/people/locations/departments for beverage services, equipment, or supplies.

Libraries policy regarding use of personal equipment to brew coffee can be found here. Please note that use and maintenance of this equipment is the responsibility of the owner.
