Hayden: Emergency Procedures

In the event of an emergency in your area, please dial 911. Call MIT Police at 617-253-1212 (or x100 from MIT phone) after dialing 911.

In the event of an evacuation alarm sounding or an overhead announcement, employees must evacuate the building and go to a rally point.

  1. Relax; keep calm, but be alert. WALK, do not run.
  2. Do not use the elevator in any emergency evacuation.
  3. Encourage others to leave on your way out. Give clear & loud instructions. Staff are NOT responsible for clearing buildings and should not put themselves in harm’s way to do so.
  4. Leave the building completely, even if the alarm stops while you are on your way out.
  5. Locate emergency personnel; inform them of any patrons still inside the building.
  6. Should you, another patron, or someone with mobility issues become trapped in the building; shelter in a stairwell with the doors closed.
  7. Meet at the designated location for Building 14 listed below:

    • McDermott Square – Sail Sculpture
    • Memorial Drive – in front of building 50 – Walker Memorial
