DDC Reading Room Policies and Procedures: Theses

This guide provides instructions and background for tasks that occur in the DDC reading room.

Theses

The theses program has shifted to primarily digital submission. The following workflows are for physical thesis deliveries that may still occasionally occur.

Theses Deliveries from Departments

Thesis deliveries from departments must be accompanied by a delivery form. Copies of the form are stored in the filing cabinet behind the reference desk. Print new delivery forms when necessary [linked from this guide].

Make sure the form is completely filled out.

The delivering department should fill out the following fields:

  • Department or Program
  • Date Delivered
  • Degree Date
  • Number of Boxes (if applicable)
  • Number of Theses (individual titles, not number of copies)
  • Department Contact (Name & Email Address)

Initial form upon receipt. If multiple boxes are received copy the form, and fill in the section "Box ___ of ___" for each box and attach.

Please email thesis-delivery@mit.edu with information about how many theses were received and from which department.

New Theses for HD Pickup

The Thesis Project Associate will deliver paper theses to 14N-118 after cataloging, when they are ready to be sent to Harvard Depository (HD).

  • Place theses in grey bins (indicating new accessions). Contact reference team if there are none available.
  • When the grey bins are picked up by HD, email thesis-delivery@mit.edu to let them know the theses are offsite (include box numbers).
