DDC Reading Room Policies and Procedures: Deliveries and Visitors

This guide provides instructions and background for tasks that occur in the DDC reading room.

Theses and Publications

Though theses are generally now digitally submitted, physical theses may still be delivered. See link below for the thesis delivery workflow.

Inter-Library Borrowing (ILB) books that must be used in the library are dropped off and picked up by Resource Sharing. See link below for workflow instructions.

Donations

All donation offers should be directed to our Donate Materials page. Prospective donors must complete the donation offer form linked on the page.

Follow-up questions can be directed to ddc-offers@mit.edu.

Email the collections team at ddc-offers@mit.edu whenever a donation is dropped off without notice.

Water Deliveries

There is a water cooler for staff at the back of 14N-118, near the break area.

Deliveries of new bottles occur periodlically. Staff must escort delivery people back to the cooler area and stay with them while they replace the empty bottles. Escort them back to the door once finished.

Water deliveries are arranged by the Admin Services team. Reach out to DDC admins with any questions or concerns.

Facilities

Periodically, facilities will need to enter our spaces to do maintenance (both scheduled and responsive). These actions can include but are not limited to:

  • Regular weekly cleaning.
  • Completing work orders submitted by staff.
  • Checking EXIT signs or other emergency equipment.
  • Working on security panels.

Facilities workers, like any non-DDC staff, should always be accompanied through our spaces. One of the staff members on the desk generally should escort facilities staff. Put a call on the DDC slack channel for supervision help if the reading room is busy or the job is expected to take some time.
