Selector's Toolkit: Continuing resources

resources for collection analysis

Selecting continuing resources

Continuing resources are orders placed once by selectors for various types of resources such as a journals, database, memberships, etc that continue to be paid annually until the resource is canceled or ceased.

Selectors learn about new journals and databases in various ways: notification of new resources by publishers/platforms, platform reports of turn-away data, and ILB reports of materials borrowed from other libraries. See the Selector Toolkit Analysis page for these reports. Selectors should review the license terms for any new item they are proposing.

Selectors can propose new journals, databases & other continuing resources for consideration via the various Wish Lists -- CoP, Central, and Open Access. Selectors place orders requests for resources that have been selected through group consensus and approved by collection strategists.

Managing continuing resources

As sponsors for resources in their subjects, selectors provide recommendations for renewals or cancellations in various circumstances. Staff Vera is the Libraries' database with information about all of our electronic resources and journals. It contains history of subscriptions, logins for examining use statistics and vendor contact info.
