Keys

Ordering Keys

To order keys go to Service Requests in Atlas. Click on Create Request, then Keys.  Enter all the needed information and your Facilities Administrator is the authorizer.

  • The Key Authorizer reviews the request and if approved the request will be forwarded to the Key Office.
  • The Key Requestor and the person who the keys are for will both receive an email notifying them when the keys are ready.
  • Keys should be picked up at the Customer Service Center in Room 7-019. Pick-up times are from 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday.
  • In order to obtain the keys, you will have to show a valid MIT ID and sign for the keys.

Returning Keys

When keys are no longer needed, key holders may return their keys to the Key Authorizer in your DLC with a completed return form or return their keys in person to the Customer Service Center in Room 7-019. When dropping off keys in person, please bring your MIT ID with you.

Locks

Repairing existing locks and door hardware can be requested via Atlas.

  • To have a lock repaired, go to Service Requests in Atlas. Click on Create Request, then Locks. There is no charge for this service.
  • Changing or installing new locks is a special service and includes a fee.

Broken Key

If the key has broken off in the lock and immediate access to the space is needed, call x3-4948 for a locksmith. Otherwise please submit a request for services via Atlas.  If you have questions contact Maria Rodrigues.

If your key has broken and is not in a look you can submit a request for a new key as outlined above in the Ordering Keys section.
